In 1861, the United States federal government approved the Morrill Act which set aside land in each state for the founding of public higher education. The Commission on Contemporary Issues was appointed in academic year 1967-68. The Commission was unable to meet until September 1968. The goal of the Commission was to find ways to create dialogue at UNH with respect to social crisis.
